The youngest of my cats, Bella, is a Halloween kitty for many reasons. She is orange on top, and white on the bottom. She is very easily spooked. And, she was rescued by my sister as a young kitten on October 31, 2000. This is not only the day that I celebrate as her birthday (celebrated with, um, snuggles...she never wants a present), but it's also the reason for her full name: Bella Lugosi.

Yes, for real.

Now, however, I'm a bit worried that she might be taking this too far. She is currently sitting on the floor by the sliding door, looking out onto my balcony at a group of birds that are hopping around on the deck and...oh, I don't know, doing bird things. And she is making this truly bizarre throaty squeaking and squawking noise.

It does not sound like a cat meowing. It sounds like wet rubber galoshes walking across a linoleum floor. Low-pitched, slightly raspy, and not something you expect to come out of the mouth of a six-pound feline.

Maybe she really is a Halloween kitty...

My cats make that noise too, as well as my mom's and my sister's cats. I think it's because they see something they want to hunt really badly but know they can't get to it.

Once several years ago I was sleeping and awoke to this bizarre chirping sound. I opened my eyes to see two of my mom's cats (they are brother and sister) standing on their hind legs, making this noise and looking out the window at a flock of birds. When the birds would move they would turn their heads at exactly the same time and angle. They looked like Meerkats!

I often refer to Bella, when she does the perching on hind legs thing, as "MeerBella!" She does this a lot, not just fo birds, but also to get pettin's or to just see what's going on.

And welcome! How did you find me, and what made you interested?

That is an awesome name for a cat. My Delilah tends to do the standing up for pets thing. Is Bella thin? Delilah is the only one of my three cats that is small, and she is the only one I ever see standing.

I found you in the comments of [livejournal.com profile] ijk's journal. I liked your icon and stopped by your jounal, noticed the cute kitty story, and being a cat lover myself... :-)

Oooh, okay. Well, come on in, hang around, read stuffs.

Do you have any "greatest hits" entries to point me to in your journal, which would make for an easy way to get to know you? Either funny things or important things?

Honestly you don't need to feel obligated to get to know me. :-) If you're interested, well, I don't really know where to point you really. Um ... this (http://www.livejournal.com/users/coffeegrace/103879.html) is a cute story about one of my cats... not that it tells you much about me but, it's amusing. lol Sorry I can't be more informative.

I'll go ahead and "friend" you since a good bit of my posts are friends locked so maybe that'll help, and you seem like an interesting read. :-)
