The youngest of my cats, Bella, is a Halloween kitty for many reasons. She is orange on top, and white on the bottom. She is very easily spooked. And, she was rescued by my sister as a young kitten on October 31, 2000. This is not only the day that I celebrate as her birthday (celebrated with, um, snuggles...she never wants a present), but it's also the reason for her full name: Bella Lugosi.

Yes, for real.

Now, however, I'm a bit worried that she might be taking this too far. She is currently sitting on the floor by the sliding door, looking out onto my balcony at a group of birds that are hopping around on the deck and...oh, I don't know, doing bird things. And she is making this truly bizarre throaty squeaking and squawking noise.

It does not sound like a cat meowing. It sounds like wet rubber galoshes walking across a linoleum floor. Low-pitched, slightly raspy, and not something you expect to come out of the mouth of a six-pound feline.

Maybe she really is a Halloween kitty...

Oooh, that sounds like "I feel hunt-y" sound. My Young Turks do that all the time when they're looking out the window at something tasty scamperign or flying around. The Old Curmudgeon doesn't do it much but he (and the two, and Gildy upstairs) all have a very particular "Behold, I am a mighty hunter!" noise, sort of a loud ululating meowy yelp. Gildy and His Imperial Highness use it when they find a furry mouse toy late at night, but Nick and Finnn save it for when they catch a *real* furry thing. Nick loves furry mouse toys, but the only noise he makes when he has one is a low, threatening "don't anyone try to take this away from me, it is MINE" growl.
