Felis ridiculous.
Feb. 28th, 2006 11:02 pmMany people do not believe me when I describe my middle (in age) cat, Miette, as "the most graceless ball of furry flab ever to lay claim to the name feline". They always cite examples of their own cats doing goofy things like trying to jump and then missing the landing and falling down, or running around and banging into things.
However, tonight I saw absolute proof.
Miette came into the living room just a moment ago, carrying her stuffed crab. This is a small stuffed animal that I sewed together about 15 years ago or so, when I was futilely trying to learn to sew. She loves to carry this thing around the apartment, dropping it in random places, and then ignoring it for a few days.
Tonight, she brought it in, dropped it on the floor, and then started to trot towards me...
...and tripped over the crab.
Uh-huh.

Date: 2006-03-01 03:27 pm (UTC)I had a cat named Kiko once, who was a big, beautiful, fluffy Maine Coon cat (it's an American variety, known for large size and long fur), and was stupid as all hell.
He was of the "knock into things while running around full tilt" variety. But what set him apart was that if he knocked into something like, say, a wall, he would not merely look chagrined and walk away.
No no. He was absolutely FURIOUS that any mere inanimate barrier would dare to stand in his way. He would HISS, back up, and angrily charge the wall again. Head first. Repeatedly.
Fortunately, he absorbed the entire impact with his brain, so there was no damage. Nonetheless, this was somewhat worrying to watch. (I was very concerned for my health after nearly perforating my intestine from laughing so hard.)
