Weird, man...

I just spent 20 minutes explaining communism to a Chinese person (Dubbug).

Yeah...that's the weirdest thing I've ever done.

I bet that had the potential to be a very interesting conversation.

I can just see some cute cartoon character waving a little sign around and shouting 'Free the proletariat'

Heh. Dubbug's not very political.

She did try to understand it in terms of cookies. Like, if her sister had cookies, and she told her sister to give them to her, and then gave back how many she figured her sister should have.

Something like that...

You have to admit though, all that cuteness has great potential for political power.

At the very least, it would be very difficult for any authority type figures to whack her.

Yes, but she denies being cute.

In fact, she says she's a big bad mean bug. She wants to have a hurricane named after her...Hurricane Dubbug.

"Then people will look at the hurricane and say...that's one BAAAD Dubbug!"

Power comes from the barrel of a cute gun, after all.

Really the weirdest thing, or just the most ironic?

[identity profile] flewellyn.livejournal.com 2006-03-17 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably the latter. Although conversations with Dubbug can be very weird.

I didn't know she was Chinese. XD

[identity profile] flewellyn.livejournal.com 2006-03-17 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup. Canadian-born Chinese, but Chinese.

[identity profile] flewellyn.livejournal.com 2006-03-18 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
I asked her, and she said "Shouldn't it be Chanada? Or something?"

[identity profile] xuincherguixe.livejournal.com 2006-03-18 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
I think that means she's Canadian, rather then Chinese :P

[identity profile] flewellyn.livejournal.com 2006-03-18 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
Culturally Chinese. Her parents spoke Chinese natively, and English is still her second language.
