So...this is an Olympic event?

Today I saw, on television, for the first time, the sport of curling.

I was not aware, up until this point, that this was, in fact, a sport.

But, now that I have actually seen it...now that I have witnessed world-class curlers practicing their subtle, careful skill...now that I have truly beheld the height of curling acumen...

I REALLY don't see how it's a sport.

A guy slides a rock...and two other guys scrub the ice with brooms?

If that's a sport worthy of being in the Winter Olympics, then next they'll try to get ping-pong into the Summer games.

...wait, really? It is? Ah, crap.

Man, stop dissing curling. It is a noble sport. They made a movie about it called Men with Brooms starring Paul Gross (The mountie from "Due South") and Leslie Nielson.

Nah, I kid curling. It's actually rather entertaining, in a "wow, they're playing a giant game of marbles with slippery things" kind of way.

One of my relatives is a professional curler. There actually is a lot of skill involved in it, even though it might not seem like it.

And those brooms really do make a difference.

And yet it's still boring.

Actually, I found it rather entertaining to watch. But I am a professional programmer, which makes me clinically insane. (It's a prerequisite.)

I tried to explain the whole Programmers-Are-Insane to the bf yesterday, but I don't think it clicked.

Alas.

Anyway. Ahem. Ping-pong, I mean Table Tennis, rocks. Thankyouverymuch.

Clippy! You're still alive!

I tease ping-pong too, you see. About the only thing I really don't think should be a sport is football.

Why is it that you say professional programmers are insane?

Not that I'm disagreeing mind you, but I'm wondering what exactly this is a comment about. That programmers tend to be eccentric, or if it's a terrible career choice or something.

Programmers, at least the good ones, tend to be quite eccentric. I think it's required.

I suppose Matt is a bit eccentric...ya think?

[identity profile] flewellyn.livejournal.com 2006-02-24 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
I daresay he is, yes.

Of course, so are you, so it works out. :-)

Programmers are sane but every day life isn't, as it is akin to a badly coded VB program running on WinME.
