So, I heard Robert Jordan died.

And all I could think was, I wonder if his funeral will drag on and on, growing ever more complex and hard to follow, until it eventually becomes so turgid and slow that everybody leaves?

Edited to add: I don't mean to mock his death, of course. It's never good when someone dies. Okay, except for really evil bastards, but Jordan of course was nothing close to that. I just had the thought, and thought it was kind of amusing in itself.

Sad

But A-MEN

All I could think was, how extremely sad that my friend who lost her partner, both of her grandparents, and her favorite aunt in the last year and has been diagnosed with a serious illness has now lost a close friend as well! Hahahaha! Oh wait. That's actually not funny at all.

Hey, now. I'm not trying to mock his death. It's never good when someone dies.

Just had the thought, and it seemed...silly.

heh. Yeeeahh... I read five pages of the alleged "first" book in a series. I fucking hate en medias res as a style, and I couldn't read it anymore.
You ARE funny, my friend.

I am sorry to hear he's gone, though.

I don't mind in medias res if it's done well, and if it doesn't take too long to tell the beginning part. Jumping into the action and then picking up backstory in the very next chapter is tolerable. Less so when you have to wait until the next book!

I've never read any of his stuff, but I dated a guy once who loved his books. And I've known plenty of other people who have read/liked/disliked his books, and have heard their thoughts on his style. So I suppose it is with some ill grace that I literally laughed out loud at your thought, but it was pretty funny. :) Sad that he died, true, but funny funny thought.
