Miette is one hell of a strange cat. I think I have mentioned this.

Right now, she is licking my armpit.

This is really quite strange. Although, since I've been ill, she might just think I smell bad. Should I feel offended that an animal who licks her own ass thinks I need a bath badly enough to give me one herself?

Cats sometimes groom other cats to express dominance, kind of like, "Hold still, let me clean you up because OBVIOUSLY you CANNOT take care of yourself!" Next will come the mental conditioning - "You are unnnnnderrrrr my connnnntrollllll... giiiive me gooshyfoods!"

But she doesn't LIKE gooshyfoods. None of my cats do.

They like the occasional can of tuna, but actual wet catfood? They turn up their noses.

My friend's squirrel went into someone's armpit once. Poor Squiggy. He was never quite as frisky again.

I had a cat who loved armpits, too - didn't have any hair in mine, so I guess he just liked sweat? /That/ was a scary way to wake up at night :o :)
He liked to attempt to groom our head hair, too, although that was obviously far too big a job for just one cat.
I always thought of these behaviors as affectionate - and tried to learn to sleep with my armpits closed :D

My Kasha was rather fond of grooming my armpit. I always figured it was because the smell and pheremones were strongest there. Since she was also into sleeping in and sniffing used underwear this seems to be a reasonable assumption of motive to me.
