Peculiarities of the young

Maybe it's just me, but...it seems rather odd to me when, as I come home from work and then being out, and a bunch of kids are playing in the parking lot, said kids all swarm around me and ask to feel my beard.

Perhaps they're just not used to men with facial hair.

At any rate, it's not something I was expecting.

Maybe:

It's because it's Harry Potter day and they think it's as close as they'll get to one kind of like Hagrid's? (PLEASE note, I said "kind of like!") :)

Well, I would think that too, except these kids are between four and six years old.

It's so true! I was with some friends buying their copies at Borders and it scared me. Like, seriously, I am in a crowd of a thousand people who have all gone insane with the blood lust type of terror.

Yeah, I can identify with this... I always like to feel men's bear--, er, I mean... I *too* have a beard. That, uh.. someone might want to feel. Yup. That's it.

Somehow, this does not surprise me.

The kids I work with are totally enamored of white-people's hair. I thought that after having mine cut they'd calm down, but it didn't work. :)

I could see them being interested in beards too. They don't have much contact with men who have beards.

Er? Asked to feel your facial hair?!?!!?

I would be a wee bit freaked out. ;)

They're leel keeds though. Too young to be creepy.

Not working?

[identity profile] sibylla.livejournal.com 2005-07-19 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
How very, very odd. What's it like to have children swarm around you, wanting to pet your beard? Did you let them?

[identity profile] flewellyn.livejournal.com 2005-07-19 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
More than a bit silly, I found. I let them, yes, but that was mostly because...well, have you ever tried to fend off a pack of five year olds?

It doesn't work.

beards have feelings too

For all of you monitoring flew's screeds:
I have personal knowledge that he was the only bearded contestant, at age 13, at the Herald Journal Spelling Bee. This hairiness has been a long time acomin.
