My brain scares me sometimes.

I just had this come into my head:

Fear And Loathing In IPv4

"We were somewhere in the 24.* IP range, just outside of UUNet, when the SYN flags began to take hold..."

For this you deserve baked goods

Hm. I have much more fear and loathing for IPv6. :)

There's an unlimited amount of ranting that could be done on the subject, but basically it doesn't solve the real problems that the Internet's encountered since the IPv6 effort started (pre-Web.) IPv6 increases costs too much, and requires a deployment path that is a nearly exact image of the NAT-based regime it hopes to replace.

There are some good features, but they simply aren't a compelling reason to upgrade one's network.

I see. You have a good point about the deployment path. I have a feeling "hybrid" networks will exist for awhile.

On the other hand, once everybody is converted over to IPv6, they could dispense with a lot of complicated stuff like DHCP or BOOTP or what have you, and just encode IPv6 addresses directly into the hardware.

It's not like we'd ever run out, with this scheme...

[livejournal.com profile] olethros may be yer man to discuss this with.

Is that anything like "The Zocalo is what the whole hep galaxy would be doing every Saturday night had the Dilgar won the war"?

Well, you have the lock on "Fear and Loathing on Babylon 5" already.
